Chicago Deep Dish August 2019
Deep Dish is a quarterly reading series of Science Fiction, Speculative Fiction and Fantasy! It is a crazy good event, with some incredible authors working in and out of this genre. This event was held on August 8, 2019 at Volumes Bookcafe in Chicago, IL.

Scott Woods – Scott Woods is the author of Urban Contemporary History Month (2016), We Over Here Now (2013) and Prince and Little Weird Black Boy Gods (2017) and has been featured multiple times in national press, including multiple appearances on NPR. He is the founder of Streetlight Guild, a performing arts non-profit, the 20-years-running Writers’ Block Poetry Night, and in 2006 became the first poet to ever complete a 24-hour solo poetry reading.
SL Huang – SL Huang is an Amazon-bestselling author who justifies her MIT degree by using it to write eccentric mathematical superhero fiction. Her books Zero Sum Game and its sequel Null Set are recently out from Tor Books, and her short fiction has sold to Analog, Nature, and more, including multiple best-of anthologies. T.J. Martinson – T.J. Martinson is the author of The Reign of the Kingfisher. He currently lives in Indianapolis as he completes his English PhD from Indiana University – Bloomington.

Dawn Bonanno – Dawn Bonanno is a short fiction and novel writer from the Chicago suburbs. She’s a graduate of the Viable Paradise writing workshop and a member of Codex. Richard Chwedyk – Richard Chwedyk is a Nebula Awarding-winning science fiction writer, teacher and poet. He has also been nominated for the Hugo and Rhysling awards and shortlisted for the Sturgeon Award. He also writes the “Recommended Books” column for Galaxy’s Edge magazine. He is also a notable hobo adjunct at Columbia College Chicago and a few other local schools.
Beth Kander – Beth Kander is an award-winning playwright and author. Her dystopian epic Original Syn debuted in 2018; the second book in the series drops fall 2019. She is over-caffeinated, constantly writing, and rarely bored—mostly thanks to her energetic daughter and husband, and their rescue dog, Oz.
Aurelius Raines II – Aurelius Raines II writes and lives in Chicago with his wife, Pam, and his two sons. He likes to write about things that aren’t happening, in hopes that they will… or won’t. His short stories and essays have been included in the anthologies Dead Inside: Poetry and Essays about Zombies, Black Power: A Superhero Anthology, Apparition Lit, and Luminescent Threads: Connections to Octavia Butler, which was the winner of the Locus Award in Non-Fiction. In his spare time, he teaches Physics to high-schoolers by showing them how to use science to survive the end of civilization.
