The Speculative Literature Foundation is pleased to announce that Paul O’Connor is the winner of our 2024 Older Writers Grant.
The Older Writers Grant has been awarded annually to writers who are at least fifty years of age at the time of application just beginning their careers as speculative fiction writers.
O’Connor’s winning piece is Gumshoe Frankenstein.
Paul Ryan O’Connor is a frequent contributor to Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, where his short story debut, “Teddy’s Favorite Thing,” was voted a 2023 Readers Award. His stories have also appeared at Mystery Magazine and Shotgun Honey. His as-yet unpublished first novel, for which he received the Speculative Literature Foundation Older Writer’s Grant in 2024, is Gumshoe Frankenstein, a hardboiled 1950s noir where the detective might be the Frankenstein Monster.
