Ten days left to apply for 2025 A.C. Bose Grant

Submissions for the A.C. Bose Grant, named in memory of SFF fan Ashim Chandra Bose, will be accepted Jan. 1-30, 2025. This $1,000 grant is awarded annually to a South Asian or Desi diaspora writer developing speculative fiction.

The SLF hosts regular Saturday co-writing sessions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central. These sessions are for writers who would like support for their writing, and are currently open and free of charge to anyone interested in being a part of our writing community. These sessions are a great time to catch up on the writing you’ve been meaning to do, in the supportive presence of others doing the same.

Opportunities for writers

The 2025 Future Worlds Prize for Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers of Colour is open to submissions from unpublished writers of color based in the UK. The winner will receive £4,500, one runner-up £2,500, and up to six shortlisted authors will each receive £850. Learn more and apply by Jan. 26, 2025 at futureworldsprize.co.uk/2025-prize.

PEN America invites applications for its Emerging Voices Fellowship, a five-month, virtual immersive mentorship program for early-career writers from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the publishing world. There is a $25 fee to submit the application, but application fee waivers are available for those facing financial difficulties. The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will offer a two-week self-directed Science Fiction residency in Sept. 2025.Writers can take advantage of one-on-one mentorship opportunities with faculty, group discussions, and a community of artistic peers. 2025 faculty include Premee Mohamed, Ai Jiang, Amal El-Mohtar, and professional guest Ali Fisher.
