The 29th annual Parsec Short Story Contest is now open. The 2025 Contest theme is “ROOTS.” There is no fee to enter. Prizes range from $200- $50. Teen writers age 19 or younger and currently attending high school are encouraged to submit to the Youth Story Prize. Learn more and submit by March 31, 2025 at parsec-sff.org/short-story-contest.
The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will offer a two-week self-directed Science Fiction residency in Sept. 2025. Writers can take advantage of one-on-one mentorship opportunities with faculty, group discussions, and a community of artistic peers. 2025 faculty include Premee Mohamed, Ai Jiang, Amal El-Mohtar, and professional guest Ali Fisher. Driftwood Press' 2025 Adrift Chapbook Contest is now open. The submission fee is $25. Each submitter will receive a free copy of a Driftwood Press poetry chapbook of their choice. The MBRSC Short Story Award: New Voices in Sci-Fi is a new contest for science fiction short stories by writers ages 16–30 from the United Arab Emirates. The deadline is Nov. 16, 2025. More information on the contest and how to submit will be made available at emirateslitfest.com and mbrsc.ae.
Remains is a new color print magazine of new horror fiction, columns and features. It is published quarterly in January, April, July and October. The first issue was released in January 2025.
