Call for jurors

The SLF is looking for jurors interested in reading for the 2025 A.C. Bose Grant! This grant annually provides $1,000 to a South Asian or Desi diaspora writer of speculative fiction. Jurors receive a $50 honorarium. To learn more, email grants@speculativeliterature.org.

Join our writing community

The SLF hosts regular Saturday co-writing sessions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central. These sessions are for writers who would like support for their writing, and are currently open and free of charge to anyone interested in being a part of our writing community. These sessions are a great time to catch up on the writing you’ve been meaning to do, in the supportive presence of others doing the same.

Opportunities for writers

South Arts invites applications for the Southern Prize and State Fellowships for Literary Arts. The genre for the 2025 cycle is Poetry. The program is open to individual artists who meet all eligibility criteria and live in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will offer a two-week self-directed Science Fiction residency in Sept. 2025. Writers can take advantage of one-on-one mentorship opportunities with faculty, group discussions, and a community of artistic peers. 2025 faculty include Premee Mohamed, Ai Jiang, Amal El-Mohtar, and professional guest Ali Fisher. The MBRSC Short Story Award: New Voices in Sci-Fi is a new contest for science fiction short stories by writers ages 16–30 from the United Arab Emirates. The deadline is Nov. 16, 2025. More information on the contest and how to submit will be made available at emirateslitfest.com and mbrsc.ae.

Remains is a new color print magazine of new horror fiction, columns and features. It is published quarterly in January, April, July and October. The first issue was released in January 2025. Submissions of previously unpublished fiction are welcome from everyone everywhere. Visit remains.uk/pages/submissions for more information.
